Volunteers are essential to make the Havant Library of Things a success! We value everyone’s involvement and input to make this a service that works for the local community.

Thank you for your interest in joining our wonderful team. Here are some ways you can get involved:

Library Assistant

This is an ideal role for someone who loves to interact with people and can offer a regular commitment of between 4 and 18 hours a month to staff the Library of things Hub. You will volunteer alongside another person and your role may include:

• Providing a positive experience and a welcoming atmosphere for customers
• Booking items in and out using our online system
• Advising the customer how to use the item
• Making the customer aware of any specific safety requirements when using the item.
• Demonstrating the item

Repairer / Item checker

This is someone who can undertake detailed visual inspections of items and undertake Portable Appliance Testing or equivalent to ensure that an item is suitable for continued lending according to an agreed timetable. This role can be combined with the Library Volunteer role and carried out when the Library of things is open.

Library of Things Promoter

This is an important role to help the Library of Things to grow. Depending on the time you have available you may be able to take on a larger role with the support of the HLoT project management team to develop and deliver a marketing plan for the Library of Things to boost membership and lending and raise the profile of the project. You can combine this with the Library Assistant role.

If you have a small amount of time you can help us by doing any of the following:

• Promoting Library of Things on social media – for example by sharing the details of the Library of Things and your experience and by signposting people who are asking for help that could be met through the Library of Things to our website and Facebook page.
• Designing a poster or some social media creative
• Delivering posters or fliers about the Library of Things
• Talking face to face to groups about the Library of Things

Assistant Project Manager

Would you like to play a key role in developing this project? Working alongside the Project Manager your role will be to help develop the future of the Library of Things in Havant. This is a great role for someone who is great at growing new projects and wants to keep their skills in use either on an ongoing basis or for a fixed period of time. This role can lead to a Project Manager role if you would like.
