Why buy when you can borrow?

Havant Library of Things is a community resource for people living and working in and close to the borough of Havant. We lend out items that you only need occasionally at a fraction of the cost of buying new.

So many of the items we buy are only used for a short amount of time. What if you just borrowed these items when you needed them? Here are some great reasons for using a Library of Things.

  • Saves you money and time
  • Cuts down on stuff you have to store.
  • Enables you to “try before you buy”
  • Makes better use of the stuff already in the world
  • Supports the local community
  • Helps reduce resource consumption

We don’t want cost to be a barrier to borrowing from the Library of Things so we have a suggested donation policy. This is the price associated with each item in the catalogue and is the cost of borrowing it for a week. It is based on how much the item costs to buy new and helps us with running costs including insurance, software and premises costs.

If this price is not right for you – for example because you are only using the item briefly or because you cannot afford the full cost please pay a donation that works for you. We also aim to offer certain items free of charge from time to time.

We also welcome donations in excess of the suggested borrowing fee.
